Experience & Appreciate the Depth of life

The other day I saw 3 colors against a white wall: tan, cornflower blue, and sage. I realized it was a lovely color combination and made me glad for COLOR. ... which of course made me think of the book The Giver when Jonas first sees Color and experiences so many new 'memories'.

So, yesterday I read The Giver. I need to read that book once a year to remind me of all the simple joys in life that I take for granted.

This mosaic I put together on Flickr reminds me of the things Jonas experienced through memories for the first time...
color red on an apple
sunshine and warmth
snow and sledding
rainbow
Christmas with family & Music
blue sky, green grass - delight & joy
sailboat
all colors
LOVE

1. Apple's heart!, 2. Sunflowers!, 3. Down hill with the sled, 4. colours makers., 5. Davis Family Christmas Tree 2007, 6. look what the wind blew in, 7. sailboat, 8. Orange slice and water droplets, 9. Heart Hug

This book once again reminded me that:

FREE AGENCY is an important gospel truth. Forcing everyone to be the same is no bueno.

Family relationships and LOVE are so important.

Even though we deal with pain and sorrow, it helps us appreciate the depth of feeling that we experience... we feel the JOY and HAPPINESS of simple things even more when we realize the opposite.

And reading this book made me think of all the things my kids see and enjoy for the first time. Yesterday we had blueberries (not for the first time) but it was a pure delight for Abe. He loved having a purple tongue and he just kept saying he loved the blueberries.

So today I'm grateful for the simple things we have to enjoy in this life. I'm grateful for the negative life experiences ONLY because I know they help me appreciate the joyful and good times even more.

I love that book too- such a good one. I've probably read it 10 times and I need to read it again.

Wow, that was so beautiful, Heath. Sometimes I feel things in colors and it's so powerful. I love the collage, and I love that book. It's amazing and I shall re-read it again soon, too. I am actually reading another Lois Lowry book at the moment that is very whimsical and funny.

Loved this. I haven't read the book...I'll have to go get it. It sounds like my kind of read.

My girls absolute FAVORITE treat is frozen blueberries...I bet Abe would love them.

Once again, thanks for all of your inspiration. Your blog is a favorite!

I love this book, too. I was at the Book Fair the other night and saw it with two other books as a TRILOGY. I had no idea it was part of a trilogy! I haven't read the other two but I plan on doing it soon! Great books!
