Just had to smile this morn when I heard Hannah singing "Come, Come Ye Saints" in the shower. She had a high-pitched mouse voice with a little opera style thrown in there. "All is well... All is well."I was trying to figure out how she even knew that hymn. She said Jimmy sang it to her for a bedtime song last night. She asked if we could sing it at church since she knew I needed to pick the hymns for sacrament meeting. Hence - the opening hymn of "Come, Come, Ye Saints."
When we ask Max about nursery he says, "Clean up", and "Vroom (cars)". That's about all we get out of him, but we're just glad that he enjoys going.
When reading scriptures tonight we talked to the kids about the principle that when the people become wicked, the Lord will no longer preserve or protect them (Mosiah 1:13). Abe said, "Like when you say bad words." Jimmy tried to explain that it's making bad choices like that but also worse things. And Hannah said, "Worse things like telling a lie." Things are so simple and innocent in kid's minds. I love that they focus on those little (yet important) things when trying to make good choices.
I liked this quote I read tonight about LIVING IN THE PRESENT. Kids really do that so well. They sure can teach us adults a thing or two about enjoying all the little JOYS.
"Children live in the present. They are always present! They live every moment of their lives unlike us adults who project into the future or recreate the past. We spend so much time worrying or stressing that things aren’t the way they should be instead of enjoying the way they are. Children, on the other hand, embrace each moment and experience whatever it has to offer. They soak in the joy of each moment and enjoy the peace and happiness each moment offers them." (Sherrie Johnson)

I substitute taught R.S. today about Friendship (from the Joseph Smith manual). What a great topic! We focused on the different friendships we have (friends with neighbors, coworkers, neighbors, siblings, parents, children, spouse).Learning from the Prophet Joseph's example and also the characteristics he treasured in his dear friends, we talked about ways we can be a better friend. It is also interesting to think how all friendships are so different but good in it's own way.
We also talked about ways we can be a better friend in our own family and help our families enjoy each other more (friendship not just in adversity, but also in times of peace).
I really do love teaching R.S. I think that is my all-time favorite calling. Good stuff to help inspire me to be a better friend, especially in my own home. I need those reminders.
