A FUN DATE

It was the night I'd looked forward to all summer - a fun date with Jimmy. We don't get out much on dates unfortunately. So when I heard Jon Schmidt was performing his new album (with the Love story meets Viva-la-vida song) at the Waterfall Amphitheater at Thanksgiving Point, I was excited. Then I was excited to know that tickets weren't that much $$. And with Aunt Julie as babysitter, I didn't even worry about the tots.

Unfortunately everyone and their dog decided that would be a fun concert too. I had no idea it would be so crowded with something like 3,000 in attendance. So - we waited in a long line just to enter even though we already had tickets. The concert started at 7 (supposedly)... and after the local band (all wearing tight pants - aak!), at 7:45 they announced they were trying to squeeze 400 more people in. They somehow fit and started a bit late. Our view of Jon was blocked by the lighting stands, but it was still a great evening to hear the tunes.I about cried Saturday morning when it was raining outside thinking our one and only big summer date would be cancelled. But the weather pulled through and was quite lovely! It was fun to have a date with Jimmy without tots distracting us. Too bad it was right during the BYU/Oklahoma football game. Luckily we had the play-by-play going on Jimmy's cell phone.

Anyhoo... it was a fun date in a lovely environment. I loved the cello accompaniment by Steven Nelson. I think the cello is my favorite instrument of all time.

Jon sure puts on a funny and casual concert. And boy - does that man have strong arms and hands. He plays so very well! We got a few chuckles out of the "Terminator" and "Man from Snowy River" song mix though. Oh - and the 'Don't worry be Happy' and 'Phantom of the Opera' song was funny too.

Thanks my love for a nice summer date!
