Kool-Aid Playdough

#38 - Make Playdough

We, in all honesty, don't play with playdough much. The kids love it, but I rarely get it out - probably due to all those playdough crumbs that end up all over the floor.

Making playdough turned out to be a fun activity. Plus, I love homemade playdough that is so soft and easy-to-squish!

Mind you, Abe complained that his flavor was way too stinky. The kids thought orange smelled like medicine but I thought it was like an orange creamsicle.

Hannah picked Fruit Punch.

Neighbor Aynsli picked Grape.

I would definitely make this recipe again and it was really quick and easy. We halved the batch (but still added the entire packet of kool-aid) since I was low on Cream of Tartar but wanted several colors. That made for really bright fun colors.

This is the recipe we used from FamilyCorner.com. Supposedly this recipe is edible (just in case Max decided to have a feast), but it still has loads of salt so the kids didn't think it tasted good.
Kool-Aid Play Dough

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
3 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
1 package
Kool-Aid Mix (any flavor of unsweetened)
1 tablespoon cooking oil

Mix dry ingredients together in a large saucepan. Slowly add water mixed with oil and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough. Turn out onto a heatproof bread board or counter top and knead until cool enough for children to handle. Dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the Kool-Aid mix. (Can be stored in a tightly covered container for up to six months)

The kids are playing with this yummy-smelling play dough for hours. I really ought to do this more often.
