Hogle Zoo

Yesterday, since the weather was still under 80 degrees we headed up to the zoo. We haven't been yet here in Utah so the kids were excited. I wasn't sure if I was up to 4 tots at a busy hot zoo... but it turned out great! The kids all stayed close by, it wasn't as crowded as I expected, and the weather was great.

We ended up staying for 1 1/2 hours at the zoo and it was the perfect amount of time. I just wish we would have gone on the train as soon as we got there when it wasn't crowded and before Truman fell asleep (or rather - cried to sleep). I just wasn't up for it at the end and the kids were a little disappointed.

Hannah's favorite animals were Zuri - the baby elephant, the monkeys, and the giraffes.

Abe mostly just loved the gorillas. That was what he wanted to see most.

Max wanted to see the lions... uh... but they didn't have any. He was so good though. He hopped in the double stroller while we walked and then would hop out to see the animals. Then he hopped back in. I couldn't ask for any better behavior out of a 2-year-old. He must have really liked the zoo adventure.

Truman - well, he didn't like his carseat on the drive up. He didn't love the stroller too much. Finally about 15 minutes before we left, he got a bottle and fell asleep. Poor little Tru.

The kids wanted to see more before we left ... so we walked into the gift shop. They loved it. I told them as we walked in that we were NOT buying a single thing "so don't even ask". And they didn't. I guess we had a few miracles that day! They loved the stuffed animals. Abe liked the snakes. I liked the African goods. All the kids liked the masks.

Anyhoo... a fun great adventure at the Hogle Zoo.

After the zoo we headed to North Salt Lake to say hi to my parents. The kids enjoyed some popsicles and sno-cones out on the patio rug. They sure love grandma and grandpa. They really sense their love for them. They care about all the little things my kids tell them (like missing teeth, animals at the zoo, cars collections, etc). I can see the light shine in my kids eyes when they spend time with g&g. I love that!

p.s. I figured if we were going to the zoo anyways, this summer, we may as well get cheese/butter out of it. So we collected Cache Valley wrappers over the past month. We had 12 wrappers and got 3 free tickets. Max and Tru were zoo freebies under 2. What a great deal for a basically free day! Thanks Cache Valley Cheese! Now, I think we'll start collecting for Megaplex tickets to see Toy Story 3.

ok we did the zoo thing too- with the cheese packets- which was exciting at first because I had 16 cache valley coupons to bring to the grocery store in my town that doubles coupons...so I bought 16 lbs of cheese for $16. But silly pregnant me- we went on Saturday because we had other things to do in SLC- and that is a big drive for us- so we were trying to do it all at once- and I didn't read the small print...so when the Zoo cashier lady told me my cheese packets didn't work on Saturday, I was so upset. Teary eyed, mostly because Chay and I talked the whole way of how we can be more frugal...and be smarter money wise...

the zoo was great...hot crowded...and all the animals were asleep or hiding in their cages.

ok...I really wanted to complain about that day...and I finally did. So thank you.

now I am excited about Toy Story now...because I have 16 cheese wrappers still- and a freezer full of cheese.
