Anyhoo... today's activity... Bowling at BYU. The kids have been begging to go bowling all winter. We hoped Wii bowling would suffice, but alas, I decided we could venture to the real bowling alley.
Only ... Max was an utter disaster.... utter. Poor 2-year-old didn't want to take turns, didn't want help carrying or placing the ball. And I've never had a child throw face-plant thrashing-limbs tantrums ... until today. I think every time I touched the child, he wriggled away and sprawled himself dramatically on the floor. I can only imagine what all the other parents thought of me as a mother during our bowling episode. Hopefully they realize I do attempt to discipline and don't give this child everything he wants. sigh...
The one funny thing about Max and bowling. He would grab that 6 lb ball and run with it. It was soooo not safe. He kept dropping it and I'm surprised it didn't smash his toes. He wanted to place it on the metal frame thingie all by himself (that was part of the disaster). He so wanted to be independent. Bowling and 2-year-olds just doesn't work.
Truman... he was good. He sat in the stroller for half of it. I think it was kinda noisy for him and he started fussing. Then I wondered why the floor was wet and slippery. Oh lovely spit-up splat on the floor.
Abe... did awesome! He just kept plugging along and doing great. He was so pleased with coming in 2nd. Go Abe!
Hannah... was out to win. She was sad because Abe was winning at first. But then she pulled ahead. We're working on sportsmanship. The goal is to have fun - right kids!?
I thought it was cool how close all the scores were. 89-87-85. I finally stopped letting Max have turns because he was throwing so many tantrums. I was so mortified by his behavior. So - that strike was thanks to moi!
My favorite moment of the entire day was when Abe said so sincerely and with intense emotion,
"THANK YOU so much mom for taking us bowling and to get a donut. I loved it."
(I wish I had it on video because his voice was so cute and sincere.)And now, I'm going to watch a movie or read a book, drink a warm drink, and vegetate and relax.... and try and figure out how I'm going to survive summer. I think I may have to stay home forevermore... sigh...

Your Max sounds just like my Ava right now. Every time I leave the house with her I'm terrified of what will happen. She is horrific in stores 90% of the time and most of the time I just run through like a crazy lady trying to get out as quickly as I can so that I can confine myself to my car where she is belted in! I avoid shopping with her whenever possible and so far, I haven't found any way to avoid the screaming and tantrums. I can't wait until she's 4- that seems to be the magic number when they get so much easier. Good luck!
Erin always has to win everything too, but Alex doesn't care. Funny personalities. I'm impressed that you dared to venture out without Jimmy. I also feel prepared to lock myself up all summer. I can relate to so much of your life. I love your blog.
You are so brave, Heather. Owen said, "everyone knows you shouldn't take a toddler bowling!" I have no idea how he knows this, but it could come from his time as a toddler.
