Shakin' in the New Year

Early this morning we had a little earthquake shake the house. We were all sleeping but it woke me, Hannah, and Jimmy. Hannah came running into our room saying her room was shaking.

I'm so glad it was a little one. But it did take me a while to fall asleep after that because I was worrying about our discombobulated 72-hour kits. "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear." We have lots to do to really be prepared for a big disaster.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – An Earthquake rocked portions of Northern Utah County early Tuesday morning.

According to the University of Utah Seismology Center, the quake, measuring at 2.9 on the richter scale, was centered about four miles NNW of Saratoga Springs, and 16 miles NW of Provo.

The earthquake happened just after 1a.m.

Several people called the ABC 4 newsroom to see what was going on.

One person said it rocked him out of his recliner chair, and another one described what he felt as "a thunderous shake."

The Utah County Sheriffs Office said they also fielded quite a few calls about the quake, but so far, haven't seen any damage stemming from the incident.

Just one day before, on Monday, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake happened in Cedar City.

On December 23rd, another small, 2.8 magnitude earthquake happened near Magna.

No damage was reported from either earthquake.
