the babe toddles

I guess it's official that Max is now a toddler. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Of course we're glad he chose to take this step (hardy-har-har!), but that means he's no longer my Mr. Squishy snuggle babe.

The week before Max turned one he was thinking about taking that first step. His first step without holding onto things happened when I was on the phone with Mary and Max was aiming to get an ornament off the tree - and wa-lah - the first real step. Christmas trees are inspiring to all.

Over the holidays he finally decided it would be beneficial to walk everywhere instead of crawling. I guess it's easier on the knees.

He really is so proud of himself as you can see in this video. He's working on stability as well. I love how bow-legged he is trying to stay upright.... pressing forward, ever onward.

It's also official that Max has learned that innate arched-back thing babe's do when they don't want to be held. Which means that church is officially very difficult to get through with Max.

But he's still mostly smiles and so we'll keep him.

He learned to go down the stairs over the weekend (since we finally let him on the stairs and didn't block them). He is a free little soul who loves to wander... which means his mom will have to wander with him to keep him safe.

He also thinks he needs soda when we happen to have it... and fruit loops. What are we to do with this babe?

Way to go Max! I love the first steps, it's such an accomplishment for them. I know this is a silly thing to comment about - but I love your rug!

Oh how cute! I love those first wobbly straight-legged steps! I love seeing what Max is doing and knowing Brenner is right behind him in a few more months. Gosh they grow too fast. Way to go mighty-Max!

I don't think there is anything cuter than a new walker. I love it.

What a cutie! He does have an infectious smile. Those first steps are so fun to watch. Better get your running shoes on, cause that's what he's going to do next!
