I'm completely serious here when I ask for recommendations on brands for little boy's pants that are sturdy.A few months ago Abe grew out of his size 5 jeans (plus most had holes)... so I bought a few new pairs of size 6 on sale at Old Navy, hoping they would last through this next school year.
I also bought the dark wash hoping they would be thicker and more sturdy.
Only, within a week or two, most had holes in the knees. When Abe plays, he puts his right knee up and drags his left knee on the floor (like to play with cars, etc). Perhaps there is no hope for him to have jeans without holes.
Yesterday his last pair of jeans got completely ripped when he did some slide move onto the grass.
Here are 8 pairs from the past year or so (most in size 5 and a few in size 6). Note - only holes in left knee!! Am I just going to have to patch? Is there a decent way to patch?
The only plus about holes in jeans is that I don't have to buy shorts. I'll just cut off his pants and sew so they won't unravel. Anyone need 8 pairs of size 5 shorts?
Any ideas on brands that last and don't cost oodles of dollars? Ideas please!!

people always tell me its good to have all boys so they can pass down clothes. hah! age 5 to 7 is the worst for putting holes in things fast. sears does a program that you sign up for when you buy kids clothes, and you can replace them when they get holes in them. at least here they do. you should call yours if you have them and ask if they do something like that. other than that, we try to get most of our jeans at thrift stores (and other nice people give them to us) so it's not quite as tragic when they bite the dust.
I don't have little boys, so I don't really have this problem. But, my girlfriends all buy their boy's pants at Sears because if they get a hole in them before they outgrow them, you can return them and get a new pair for free. I think it might be called the toughskins brand?
Okay Heather, I am having the same problem which I rarely had with the girls. Let me know if you get any good advice about this! :)
yep, just toughskins from Sears, and you could iron on a knee patch before it gets the hole. Anyway, he might have to be a shorts wearing kid!
Shopko Heather! They have the "KidTough Promise." If the pants wear out before the child grows out of them, you can get them replaced for free! :) Also on a plus side, their pants are much thicker in the knees. I believe Sears has the same promise too.
I will tell you right now Old Navy is the WORST when it comes to jeans. I swear in the last few years their jeans have gotten thinner. I think they do it on purpose so you have to keep buying more.
Heather, this is what I have found in being the mother of a 12 year old! No pants could hold up to his play! I always cut their jeans off and they have their summer shorts. The bright side to my life now is that just the other day I realized that this is the first year that my oldest didn't have holes and we can pack them for the next boy! Sorry to say that my advice is that magic number 12.
Oh my goodness, that picture is hilarious! Maybe you could find some cool McQueen patches to sew on.
I have been pretty lucky with Drew. He has only a few holes. I do know that they sell double reinforced knee pants at some places (think IFA type stores, i am thinking it might be wrangler brand). Abe might look like he belongs on a farm but they might make it through.
I just want to say that I agree with Marne. Old Navy is totally making their pants thinner and crappier. It's a conspiracy!
