I thought it would be fun this year to celebrate the Chinese New Year for a cultural experience. The kids thought it was fun to see which animal went with the years we were born:
Jimmy & Heather - Year of the Dragon - 1976
Hannah - Year of the Horse - 2002
Abraham - Year of the Monkey - 2004
Max - Year of the Pig - 2007
Truman - Year of the Ox - 2009
We prepared some Chinese food to eat with chopsticks. I was the only one who liked the Sweet-n-Sour Chicken. But the Fried Rice was enjoyed by me, Hannah, and Jimmy. The chopsticks were a little tricky, but everyone gave them a try. Hannah did a little stabbing and shoveling. Abe ate his pineapple very well with chopsticks. Max held them in one hand and grabbed the food with his other hand.
Hannah and Abe decorated some paper plates for the celebrations. I loved their designs.
We ended the celebrations with a game of Chinese Checkers.

We also practiced a little Chinese:
Greetings- Ni hao ma?These made me laugh (How in the world would you be able to say those if your Chinese was poor!!!):
Thank you- Xie xie ni
You're welcome- bu xie
Hello, my name is Hannah - Ni hao, wo shi Hannah
