Cookies - a memory

I thought it would be fun to note some lovely memories from my life. I'd love to take an entire month and pick a different memory every day to highlight... but reality is these days that I don't take time to blog daily. So I'll just post as I think of them.

Today's memory... chocolate chip cookies & after-school snacks
This is the very tray my mom used to place hot tasty chocolate chip cookies on. I think she usually made the Cowboy Cookies recipe in the family cookbook. I'm sure they didn't last very long on there with lots of tots to eat them. I love that she made us this treat.

I have oodles of after-school snack memories sitting up to the counter telling mom about my day. Chocolate chip cookies were a favorite. I also loved apples dipped in caramel or warm homemade bread with butter.

I want to have this same tradition of after-school snacks with my kids... not so much because of the food, but for the memories of chatting about the day. Sometimes I find myself shooing my kids off to quiet time or homework time. Embrace the moments together - for soon those tiny tots will be grown and gone... I need to remember that.

Now - I just need to get myself a groovy and huge cookie tray.

By the way, my most recent favorite cookie recipe is posted here by my cousin Angie. They seriously turn out every single time - which is a miracle for me!

Here's the recipe for posterity's sake:

Yummy Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies (Angie Jeppson)

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
3 cups flour
6-12 oz. chocolate chips (depending on if you are a true chocolate lover)

Mix together shortening, butter, and both sugars. Then add eggs and vanilla. Then add dry ingredents. Finally, mix in the chocolate chips. Grease cookie sheet, and bake at 350 for 10-12 min. (sometimes I add 1 cup oatmeal and they still turn out great. I use a medium size scoop and bake for 10 min)

It is possible that having a counter to sit up to is a family necessity. I'll remember that next time we move...

I'm tryin' that recipe, man!
