Our December 23 tradition

Today marks the 203rd birthday of Joseph Smith. My family has a tradition every December 23rd to have a special dinner and program to honor the Prophet Joseph. It is one of my favorite holiday traditions.

We didn't do very well this year at having a nice pioneer-style dinner (like cornbread, meat, potatoes, vegetables, with a pumpkin spice cake, etc). But we did go simple and enjoyed omelets with ham and green pepper. Our neighbor brought us a mini loaf of homemade bread so that made a nice toast to go with it.

The Price family tradition for the program is to have each person tell a favorite story, quote, or scripture about Joseph Smith. For our little ones, we talked briefly about a few life happenings of Joseph and then had popcorn while watching The Restoration Movie. After finally herding and settling the whining kids, we had a nice family activity with it all.

December 23rd also reminds me that one year ago today was Maxwell's due date.  Here's the classic memory of baby Max sporting the nice pioneer hair-do. His hair still grows just like that, only now it's shorter so it doesn't swoop.

And though this has nothing to do with a pioneer birthday celebration, Max took 10 steps today. Hurray! He is on his way to walking soon. Here's the video to show some of his baby-step efforts.

I love this Joseph Smith idea. I'm going to steal your idea for next year. What a fun tradition!
