A Man for All Seasons

I wanted to mark this day in our family record of President Gordon B. Hinckley's death at 97 years old. My heart is sad to think of President Hinckley not being with us here on earth anymore. But my heart rejoices for him to be with his sweet wife again. What a joyful reunion that must have been!

On KSL news they referred to President Hinckley as 'A Man for All Seasons' which I thought very appropriate. He has been in church leadership for so many years and has cheerfully led the church through the ups and downs of world events. His faith and optimism and testimony have been such an inspiration to me. There are so many things I love about this great prophet. Here are a few quotes that personify him as a optimistic man of faith:

“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.” Gordon B. Hinckley (spoken at his wife, Marjorie Hinckley’s funeral)

"Now, my brethren and sisters, the time has come for us to stand a little taller, to lift our eyes and stretch our minds to a greater comprehension and understanding of the grand millennial mission of this The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a season to be strong. It is a time to move forward without hesitation, knowing well the meaning, the breadth, and the importance of our mission. It is a time to do what is right regardless of the consequences that might follow. It is a time to be found keeping the commandments. It is a season to reach out with kindness and love to those in distress and to those who are wandering in darkness and pain. It is a time to be considerate and good, decent and courteous toward one another in all of our relationships. In other words, to become more Christlike" Gordon B. Hinckley - Gen. Conf. 1995 Apr.

I'm sure going to miss President Hinckley. I was sad to hear the news, but also happy for him, because he lived a good long life and now he is with his beloved wife.
