Since Stephanie is having her baby today (haven't heard yet, but hopefully soon), reality is starting to set in that in 2 months we'll have a new-wee-little-one in our home. Looking at baby items is always a fun thing to do. I came across these cute homemade burp rags and t-shirt by Shelly Brown.
How creative and cute! I think I might make some of those (any ideas on the best way to go about doing that sewing friends? Do you use some iron-on backing on the material or something? Obviously I'm not a big sewing guru.) And what would you do about bleaching the rags? Both my babies have spit-up like crazy and a decent sterilization is necessary. And I love these soft chenille/fuzzy/silky type blankets. I always see the cutest girly ones.
I've seen these Slings around and wonder if it is something I would enjoy using. Sometimes I think I might feel smothered, but then I think it would be a snuggly way to transport baby in the winter (and perhaps keep them snuggled and hidden from all the winter germs floating around). I've always had a weird idea about slings like they are for people who insist on carrying their baby every where and all the time or something. I can't imagine using it all day long, but maybe just when out and about. I am just going to bottle feed so the benefit of hidden nursing with a sling doesn't really seem to fit me. Has anyone ever used one? I'm interested to hear.
I'm getting excited and nervous about having a new baby in our house. I think I've forgotten how to care for such a tiny person. And will our baby survive Abe 'cock-a-doodle-do'-ing at him all day long? And will I survive having to get up in the middle of the night? I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
With Miss Hannah around to take care of everyone, we might survive. She is such a good helper. She gets snacks for herself and Abe when I'm in the shower; one day she was telling me how she had to 'spoon-feed' Abe his rice krispies (what a crack-up). Last week she told me that I wouldn't have to help Abe get dressed ever again, because she would do it. She's still hesitant about changing the baby's diapers, we'll have to work on that one. (kidding on that one!) Go Hannah!

Those are some cute baby items, they seem pretty easy to make. I hear you on the spit up thing, Lacy was a HORRIBLE spitter-upper. I will have to post a nasty photo to show, it was pretty gross. I was so glad when she outgrew that!
Speaking of spitter babies which translates into screaming-all-day babies...and why I'm done having kids...oh, did I say this out loud? I think Hannah is ready for diapers! She's very helpful that little girl.
I LOVED my sling. I only had one with my youngest and wished I would have had one for the others as well. I could do things with two hands and even nurse her while doing other things (even shopping). I had the maya wrap (www,mayawrap.com). Another plus for me was at church (enrichment things) I had the baby in the sling and not out there to be passed around. Didn't love the idea of all the germs and hands, ya know.
I love Shelly's homemade baby things.
I never had a slig, but I had a friend who did and she LOVED it. Her baby would not let her put her down and she wore it everywhere! I think you'll like it. I think Shelly just sewed the little stars on and it looks like they might be ragged at the edges which is even easier to do. let me know if that doesn't make sense.
Hannah is such a little sweetie. It sure will be nice to have a happy helper girl like her around. How sweet!
I used a sling with Almy and I liked it. I have a bad back so I couldn't wear it for very long and had to ditch it when he was about 6 months because he was to big. It wasn't super comfortable for me, but I have friends who love theirs.
