Stake Conference

Last night we had the grown-ups meeting for Stake Conference. One of my favorite topics was "Our Greatest Treasure is the Gospel" with a reminder to not become distracted with worldly accumulations, activities, or riches. This was a good message about not comparing (especially to those better off) but to be grateful for our blessings and family and life. I also liked the hymn we sang that seemed to sum up some of my thoughts lately on gratitude and my prayer for physical and spiritual safety. The 2nd verse is a reminder of our constant reliance on our Savior for peace and joy.Today we all survived Stake Conference. I think Abe has a constant song in his head because he seemed to be humming the entire time. His song of the day was 'Bringing home a baby bumble bee'. He is still sporting a huge greenish, yellowish bruise on his head from his magnificent tripping incident this past week. Hannah colored almost the entire time and enjoyed the new activities (see previous post). I had a slight pain shooting down my leg from my back. I was grateful for my FedEx stadium pad that I took to sit on. There really is no hope of ever getting in the chapel for soft seats.

A man in our stake presidency spoke about the experience they had recently of having a grown daughter pass away from cancer. He told how her son who is 4 is able to cope by learning about the doctrine of the Plan of Salvation. What a hard trial to go through for their family.

Overall, Stake Conference provided an uplifting weekend.

Heather, this blog shows how truly good you must be. You post about hymns and Stake Conference and I post about the Emmy's. I need to talk to you more. Maybe that'll save me. Glad you survived S.C. with 2 kids. That's a nightmare of a weekend for us.

Heath, sounds like we had a similiar day. Today was our stake conference too. Hyrum is our child sporting the greenish yellowish bruise just under his eye where he bonked himself against the dinner table. Our kids did pretty well. . . better than expected for the 2 hours. I think it was the Sesame Street Magazines (I know not very churchy) and the trailmix I brought. In fact, I think they did better today than they usual do during normal sacrament meeting. a rare blessing.

Heather, you are so so so good. I wish I was more like you. This is a constant trial for me, and I feel like I'm constantly at the bottom of the barrel. You are definately on the top! Thanks for the encouragement and reminder. I needed it. I would love some more thoughts on the subject if you remember other things about the talks. Love ya!
