Today I had grand schemes (on my first preschool day without any doctor appointments) to thoroughly tackle the paper piles and bathrooms. But I was dog tired by 10 a.m. so I took a nap - which ended up lasting 4 hours. Aaaaak! Yikes - I know! My body must be plum worn out (doesn't that sound like Marilla?).
My counters didn't get cleaned until 7 p.m. when I scooped everything in a laundry basket to hide in my room (since the YW leadership meeting was at my house later tonight). The kids helped tidy the front room - ok, really it was just Hannah. And then I sprayed Febreeze Microbrial on my couches so they would smell fresh. So now my front room and kitchen are tidy and tomorrow I'll have to tackle the piles now stacked in my room. Looking on the bright side... at least it's all in one place now.
So, my choice to take a nap, wasn't necessary the plan to be on my way to becoming an organized housekeeper, but it sure helped my emotional and physical stamina survive the rest of the day with the kiddos. But it's a lesson in consequences too... piles don't dissipate on their own. Sigh... a mother's work is never done. On to better things... (I really think that dot-dot-dot is my favorite punctuation though I'm sure my college grammar teacher would be appalled at my usage of the ... - does the dot-dot-dot have a technical name?)I saw and loved this quote on my friend Marne's website. Especially on significant days such as 9/11, I think about choices affecting lives for good (heroes) or ill (bad-guys). I don't have the brain power or skill to be as eloquent as I'd like, so I won't go too deep into the gospel principles of choice...agency...becoming. But I just thought I'd share this inspiration. To me, this quote is full of hope because I realize that choices I make are creating ME and I know that Heavenly Father has faith in me to reach my potential. Gratefully, He is patient and forgiving with me as I work out all the kinks in my choices and agency (even the small choices like taking a comfy long nap instead of productive housekeeping) I'm definitely a work in progress ... till next time ...

Hey, naps are just as important as productive housekeeping! The two go hand in hand... Oh, and I LOVE Febreeze. *B
Heather, I so love this post! Thank you! I love what you said, 'choices I make are creating ME'. What a great thing to remember! I really needed that. I love Mr. Rogers. That is a great quote. I love that you piled things in your room. That is exactly what I do! The one "piling" room got so bad I couldn't even walk around! So I spent a few days and cleaned it all. It's so nice to have done. That made me laugh that we do the same thing. Love ya!
I love this post, too! My friend Carol Sue used to take a brown grocery sack and dump the piles from the kitchen into it to put in her room as needed. I learned, now I do that, too! Ah, that I would just keep up with it all... (dot, dot, dot!).
Confession . . . the first day of school where I had no appointments . . . I went back to bed also. Not just for 30 minutes or something like that. Oh no. It was more like three and a half hours. So, good job taking care of you!! And I love the laundry basket solution for piles. That was great! What to do with those endless piles? And I love the dot, dot, dot. It just gives you that perfect pause when writing. It makes it sound like talking. Great post Heather. Thanks for sharing how "real" you are! It's refreshing.
AWESOME- 4 HOURS!!!
THAT WOULD BE MY BEST DAY EVER!
I thought for sure Carol would know the term for dot, dot, dot! Is there one?
I have realized that a nap is sometimes much more important than a clean house. Will the kids remember the clean house???? or the nice mom? :) It used to drive me crazy to lay down with things a mess, but now if I get a chance I take it! Of course, I must admit that it seems like right now it is a mess whether I nap or not.
I love Fred Rogers. I bought 2 of his books full of his quotes with a bookstore gift certificate I got for my birthday and I love them! Another great quote and picture for my fridge.....I need a bigger fridge! By the way I just love the "dot, dot, dot" punctuation too.
it's called an ellipse. :-)
WOW! This post struck a deep cord with me today. (I found your blog, blog surfing today). I am trying a new schedule that Mondays are my cleaning day (as I sit her blooging) so that the rest of the week I am available to be me, to enjoy my kids and not stress about "the piles". Thank you for confirming that this line of thinking isn't warped. That is is okay to make the chocies that fit who we are.
I love Mr. Rogers and I love that quote!
