Sleep is a good thing...for everyone

Today was the day I knew I needed to end all naps for little buddy Abe. The boy is almost 3 1/2 and is starting preschool. But the poor kiddo loves naps. Save a few rare days, Abe has put himself down for naps or has fallen asleep during quiet time. But when he does take a nap (hallelujah for mama smith), he ends up staying up forever at night... sometimes getting up a bazillion times until 10 p.m. Yikes - yeah, not so fun for mama and papa smith! So, we've decided this must end and that he needs to go to bed consistently at 8 and learn to live without naps. Alas...sigh...this saddens mama smith (that's me) because my afternoon quiet time is quite interrupted by 3-year-old boredom or hunger pains...hence...today was a hard one for me. But this too shall pass as we all adjust to his new schedule. I suppose this means Abe is a real boy and no longer a toddler - a big milestone. But looking on the bright side of things - we do know that one thing Abe is good at is taking naps. This kid has napping skills!

My oldest son was like this too Heather. He loved his naps. He was more sad than I was when it was time to give them up. Your scrapbook pages are great..have you ever submitted them for publication? You should!

What a sweet boy to take such good naps. It is a hard choice between a decent quiet time or having time at night with your husband. Tough!!

Way to go on making it through your first no-nap day! That is a hard thing. So nice to have time at night though when they're asleep. I hear you about the 10 o'clock bedtime! Those nights are rough! Good luck! What a sweet boy to sleep so well. I wish Porter would do that!

Ah, the good ole days of naps :). What a sweet thing that Abe is good at! He'll have his day once again when he's a daddy, maybe on Sunday afternoons. Your pages are outstanding, Heath!
