I wanted to blog some of my recent favorite books. I haven't been in a reading spurt for about a year, and it has been fun to put myself in a different world for a little bit each day. I first read Princess Academy which is a Newberry Award book. It was a good one.
Then I decided to read the 3-part series of Goose Girl, Enna Burning, and River Secrets. I totally loved Goose Girl. Enna Burning was a little bit more intense as it was during time of war... but it had some interesting comparisons to make for life. And then River Secrets was pretty good too. They were the kind of books I didn't want to put down. I'm not huge into fantasy since I'm a scaredy cat (ie...Harry Potter books freak me out too much)... but these books had just a little bit of the extra-ordinary fantasy but not too much for me. I also read Austen Land by Shannon Hale which was fun. I actually haven't read very many books that are in a modern setting so it was interesting. I love reading books that take me far away to a slower, quieter, non-technology type of setting (like L.M. Montgomery's books...sigh).
Last summer my reading spurt was books by Lois Lowry. These 3, The Giver, Gathering Blue, and The Messenger, are linked by a few characters and I thought they were good fun quick reading. Enough of my book summary speech. If you've loved other books, let me know. I'd love some new, good, clean easy-reads.

These books are beautifully blogged :). I love the Lois Lowry books! And after reading 2 of the Shannon Hale ones, I'm in! There is a lot of good writing out there and just to note, Shannon Hale is LDS (as is Stephanie Meyer, but I don't know if you would love her books). Another fun book like those is Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George. The author spent some of her growing up time in Rexburg around the corner from DeMordaunts. It's her first novel, and published by Bloomsbury! Nice style, reminds me of Just Ella by Gail Carson Levine (but with dragons and backwards...). And you probably know Gail Carson Levine of Ella Enchanted, The Two Princesses of Bamarre, and the Princess Tales set in the kingdom of Biddle. Oh, sorry this is so long! Don't get me started!...
Wow, Heath, you are amazing. How do you read and keep up with it all? I need to make quiet time for things I enjoy, but never seem to quite get things all together. I'm glad to know some good recommendations, maybe when all my kids are in school... Thanks!
HI Heath. Have you read this: http://www.loislowry.com/pdf/Newbery_Award.pdf It is Lois Lowry's Newberry Award Acceptance Speech for The Giver. It is dynamite and just pulls everything in that story together. I've put a few of Shannon Hales books on hold at the library. Thanks for the heads up on those. I'm always looking for something good to read.
Thanks for the recommendations Heather! They sound fabulous! I think I will start try the Shannon Hale books after I finish Jane Eyre...I have been dying to read that book again!
I've read the Shannon Hale books they were great. I've read The Giver, but I will have to try reading the other Lois Lowry books. Right now I am reading War and Peace, it is going to take me awhile.
