Pioneer Children

Hannah has been eager to dress up like a pioneer ever since we went to Nauvoo. So a month or so ago, I started sewing her a skirt. Though I sewed and unpicked the stitching and sewed again, I never quite finished it up (I was having brain troubles thinking through making it reversible). I also planned on making a little apron and bonnet. Yesterday Hannah said that she guessed that it would be okay to wear a different outfit on Pioneer Day since I hadn't finished her pioneer girl costume. So last night I diligently sewed and finished the skirt and apron. (which made me think of my mom spending long nights sewing dresses for me). The bonnet intimidates me so I didn't even start it. So this morning Hannah was excited to see her pioneer girl outfit but didn't want to wear it without the bonnet. Figures! So I told her that we could tie some material in her hair to match the skirt. We talked with Hannah about pioneer children walking and walking for such a long time, and perhaps getting mosquito bites (just like she has), and getting sick. Tonight I'm excited to share some family history stories with her that mom sent.

Heather, You are so awesome! Great job making such a cute pioneer skirt. I know all about that, as I just made a skirt and bonnet to go to Martin's Cove, and mine wasn't even reversible. You are such a great mama!

And I love that you made Hannah a purse too. That about made me cry how Hannah wants to be just like you.

Love ya!
