Our trip to Georgia

We drove 8 hours to Dawsonville, Georgia for a Thompson/Smith Family Reunion. We left on June 30 and came back on the 4th of July. I checked the weather before we left and they called for a few clouds but mostly warm sunny days. But reality was that it rained for 3 days. We finally bought some long sleeve jackets so we could stay warmer. But here are some of the highlights:
- Enjoying potato soup at Outback Steakhouse (all I wanted with a sensitive stomach)

- Going to the Godbee Family cemetary where Jimmy's grandparents and sister are buried.
- Heading to Helen, Georgia, a small Bavarian town. We went miniature golfing, ate southern BBQ, hiked to Anna Ruby Falls.
- Went to a blustery and slightly chilly bbq at the Dawsonville Swimming pool. Not many swam but they had a fun game of volleyball.
- Swimming at the hotel with cousins.
- Played wiffle ball at the Dawsonville fields where Jimmy and his brothers used to play.
- Hannah saw her first real rainbow.
- The kids took a nap on Tuesday at the hotel so they could go to the fireworks show at Stone Mountain (it started at 9:30 p.m.)
- Meeting Jan and Blake's family at Stone Mountain. Jan has 4 really sweet and great boys in her life. I'm afraid they saw us almost at our worst but we all hiked up Stone Mountain and were proud of our accomplishment.
- Fireworks & laser show at Stone Mountain. We waited for 1 1/2 hours with hundreds of people at Stone Mountain to see the 45 minute show. Abe loved the fireworks until the end when he plugged his ears and closed his eyes. We were really glad we did it even though we were all so tired.
- Hiking up to Amicalola Falls on our way out of town.
- Abe saying the words to 'I am a child of God' on all our hikes.
- Spending time with cousins and aunts/uncles & Grandma & Grandpa. Hannah loved going to primary with Nicholas and Thomas.

- Jimmy and I both enjoyed the books we are reading. I finished Princess Academy and the Tale of Despereaux which are both Newberry Award books. And Jimmy is reading Freakanomics.

The non-highlights:
- Pouring Rain
- Scare with the 6 huge dogs.
- Heather's 20 itchy bug bites (should've put bug spray on a bit sooner at the cemetary).
- Public Restrooms with kids. But what can ya do about that?

- Losing my breakfast and lunch on the side of the road due to windy roads or an unsavory Arby's Sandwich.

So overall we had a super time. Here are the
rest of the photos on a picasa web album with captions if anyone is interested.

Can't believe you have already posted this great post. We had such a great time with your family. Your kids are just adorable. And if they were at their worst, it was not bad at all. You haven't seen us at our worst. Yicks! If you come to Georgia again, you are always welcome at our home. Blake got some good pictures of us all walking up Stone Mountain. Hopefully we'll get them posted soon.

Sounds like quite the adventure. You got to go on some great hikes though! I didn't know you were going to get to see Jan and her family. That's great! Hope you enjoy the return from vacation laundry and days of unpacking. :)
