I'm really not intending to turn my blog into a political debate. But tonight as I was in the kitchen and the kids were burning off some energy outside, I was thinking about the topic of recess in schools and that some elementary schools are doing away with recess. I was thinking about Abe with all his never-ending energy and what he would do stuck in a classroom all day without time to just run and play. With my interest in family science human development education, of course I wondered what the argument against recess would be - and what type of people would make that argument. Here are a few interesting articles if anyone is interested.

Interesting. Well I haven't read the articles, but I think my girls would go crazy if they didn't get to run around. I think recess is necessary just to get energy out.
I am actually surprised this is even a debate with childhood obesity taking so many headlines. I wasn't sure if I believed that so many young kids were obese, but after driving past a few elementary schools at recess I am now convinced this a problem. We need to keep recess and physical eduction and probably need to reconsider how important they really are.
What?! This is crazy. I'm going to read those articles and be ready to go to battle for recess if necessary. Duh! Our kids have to have a physical outlet and a few minutes to unwind during the school day. I would guess that teachers would see the obvious need for the break, too. Goodness!
